Originally from Greece, Nasia is a neuroscientist whose journey into brain research began with a career in social work. After earning a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania, she completed an internship at a brain rehabilitation facility, where she became fascinated by the remarkable differences in how people think, behave, and recover following neurological injury. That experience inspired her to pursue a career in neuroscience.
She went on to earn an M.Sc. in Neuroscience and Neuropsychology from Goldsmiths, University of London, followed by a Ph.D. in Psychology with a concentration in Cognition and Neuroscience at Temple University. She then completed her postdoctoral training at Washington University in St. Louis, where she used large-scale multimodal neuroimaging datasets to study brain development, pubertal maturation, and risk for depression.
At PennLINC, Nasia studies how the brain develops across the lifespan and why some individuals are more vulnerable to mental illness than others. Her research combines multimodal neuroimaging, computational methods, and machine learning to investigate brain development, puberty, aging, and mood disorders.
Outside the lab, Nasia enjoys spending time with her husband, their three children, and their two cats.
